Mid-Autumn Festival

5K Run for Reunion

This Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋节), help Chinese adoptees reunite with their first families by joining Nanchang Project’s first Run for Reunion. Your participation helps fund our annual in-China search trip happening this winter and provides free DNA tests for families in China to assist them in finding the children they lost.

Sign-up to walk or run the 5K at your own pace anytime between October 1-15, 2025. Participants who submit their results and an optional fun photo will be entered in a raffle!

Participation in this event can be done remotely anywhere in the world, but for those located in the cities below, Nanchang Project volunteers will be hosting a regional get-together and walk. If you are interested in participating in-person at one of the cities below, please make sure to indicate that on the sign-up form.

  • Washington, D.C., October 11 @ 9 AM

    • Location: L'Enfant Metro Plaza

  • Boston, MA, October 4 @ 11 AM

    • Location: Arthur Fielder Memorial

  • Chicago, IL, October 4 @ 10 AM

    • Location: Foster Field Athletic Area

  • San Diego, CA, October 11 @ 11 AM

Participation in this event is open to everyone—runners, non-runners, adoptees, non-adoptees, friends, family, allies, dogs, cats, etc.—anywhere in the world. We encourage you to spread the word, gather your friends, and enjoy the outdoors while supporting family reunion.

How Does Our Virtual 5K Work?

  1. Register for the event when the sign-up form goes live (HERE and also below). Registration fees are on a sliding scale starting at $20 USD. The registration form will include the option to sign up for one of our regional walks or to participate remotely anywhere in the world. Deadline to register is October 1, 2025.

  2. Download a fitness app such as Strava, Apple Fitness, Google Fit, Samsung Health, etc. Ensure that the application can track distance traveled and time. This is not a strict requirement (it’s optional for 5K participation), but we will be raffling off prizes to participants who submit a screenshot of their 5K results and a fun action photo.

  3. If you are participating remotely, run or walk a 5K around your neighborhood or a local trail anytime between October 1-15, 2025. You are more than welcome to encourage a group of friends and family to participate in the event together! Don’t forget to start your fitness app and take a photo.

  4. If you are participating at one of our regional walks, show up at the designated location and time to participate in the 5K walk. Enjoy the walk and take the opportunity to connect with Nanchang Project volunteers and supporters in person. More detailed instructions will be sent to you via email as we get closer to the event if you registered for a regional walk.

  5. Submit your results (a screenshot of your 5K time and an optional photo) through our 5K Results Form to be entered into our raffle and leaderboard. The results submission form will be located below in October and sent to participants via email.

Entries are now closed - Happy Running!

Entry fee will be on a sliding scale starting at $20 USD.
