Nanchang Project Spring 2024 Trip

Search Opportunity for Hunan Adoptees

It’s been five years since our last trip to China (due to the Covid-19 pandemic), and Nanchang Project is FINALLY heading back to search in person!! We are so excited. This time we are branching out and visiting Hunan province. Hunan adoptees and adoptive families, use our Google Form to register your information for our upcoming search! We are creating group flyers in advance of travel and wish to have a registry of searching Hunan adoptees to have on hand when we locate birth families. Those who register with us will also have the option to participate in our Hunan-wide video!

DEADLINE: The deadline to join our flyers and video has passed. However, we will accept submissions from Hunan adoptees and parents to have your information on hand to compare with any birth families we meet. You will also receive an invite to an exclusive WeChat group for Hunan participants. This new Form will close on Monday, March 18.

What You Need:

Please have copies/images of the following ready to attach with the Form:

Donate to Participate

To raise funds for printing flyers, in-China travel expenses to locate families, and DNA tests (Nanchang Project's matches are always free), we require a minimum donation of $10 USD to be included on our flyers. At this time, our Hunan itinerary is not fully decided, but we expect to visit 2-3 cities and will pursue media opportunities. We are creating group flyers for the areas we will visit as well as Hunan-wide flyers in the hopes of widespread distribution. We will share the Hunan-wide flyer with you once completed, so you can share it with your Chinese contacts too!

You may send your donation to us through the following options:

  1. Zelle - Send to hello@nanchangproject.com (Zelle does not charge us any fees to receive your donation)

  2. Venmo - Send to @NanchangProject (Venmo charges us the lowest fees after Zelle)

  3. PayPal paypal.me/nanchangproject

  4. Our Facebook page "The Nanchang Project" - Click the “Donate” button when signed in to your account

Any amount over $10 USD is INCREDIBLY appreciated and beneficial to alleviating financial strain on our charity for this upcoming trip. Thank you so much for your support!

Update Jan 30: Our in-country itinerary remains undetermined. However, we have been contacted by a Yueyang adoptee who has offered to distribute a group search flyer during their own search trip (separate from the organization’s trip) this spring. Thanks to this individual’s generosity, we can offer this wonderful opportunity to Yueyang adoptees to have their images and basic info distributed on-the-grounds in Yueyang. Any adoptees with Yueyang origins who registered as normal through our below Form by March 1 will be automatically added to our Yueyang group search flyer, as well as the Hunan-wide flyer! Your Form submission will not be shared with this Yueyang adoptee volunteer; only the completed public flyer. Thank you to this incredibly supportive community for coming together to help one another out!

How Participation in our Hunan Spring Search Works

  1. You submit all required information and photos to us using the Nanchang Project: Hunan Spring 2024 Search and Group Poster Registration Form. Deadline is March 1st!

  2. Be sure you sent a donation with a minimum value of $10 USD at the time of submitting your Form.

  3. Our small volunteer planning team (run by adoptee and adoptive parent volunteers) reviews the information you submitted and contacts you if we need anything else. Then we add your photos and some basic info to our group flyer(s). We will be creating a few flyers: some specific to the areas we will visit and a Hunan-wide group flyer. All flyers are intended to be shared by us during our trip while in China!

  4. Those who register with us will also have the opportunity to participate in our Hunan-wide video. If you expressed interest in your form, we will email you instructions on how to film your video.

  5. Once the Hunan-wide group flyer is complete, we will email participants a copy to share with their contacts in China to help spread the word about our search trip!

  6. During our trip, we will cross check your details with the info provided to us by the birth families we meet during our trip. If there is a likelihood of potentially matching a birth relative, we will notify you immediately. All located birth families will be offered a free DNA test.

  7. In the case of a potential match, all DNA comparisons will take place on GEDmatch.com. Adoptees need only to upload their raw data from 23andMe, AncestryDNA, MyHeritage, or FTDNA, and enable matching with other kits. Nanchang Project provides free matches to adoptees who match with a birth parent, sibling, aunt/uncle, grandparent, or first cousin. You can find instructions on using GEDmatch here and also read more information about DNA testing options here.

We request that adoptees and adoptive parents complete this Form fully and as accurately as possible. Please have your adoption documents handy to help you answer the questions. We also require that you upload copies of your adoption documents (for info purposes only) as well as photos of yourself (to be included on the flyer). Please submit your donation before submitting the Form!

Estimated time to complete this Form: 15-25 minutes

Please note that our flyers and video have reached maximum capacity. This new Form available below is for registering your information with us to have on hand to compare with birth families, and you will receive an invite to join our exclusive WeChat group. Deadline for this is Monday, March 18.

The information submitted with this Form will strictly be used for planning, searching, and matching purposes as pertaining to Nanchang Project's efforts in family reunion for Chinese adoptees. We understand your information is sensitive and we will treat it with genuine care, as if it were our own. Only Nanchang Project official volunteers (Chinese adoptees and adoptive parents) and Search Partners (small team) will have access to your submitted information. The information we plan to include on the group flyers for public distribution are your images and select details (i.e. birth year, finding location, orphanage adopted from); adoptees' names will NOT be printed. We will NEVER publish or distribute your documents, health conditions, or contact details without your permission.

For questions related to our upcoming Hunan trip or about your participation in our group flyers, please direct your emails to hello@nanchangproject.com.
